A motorcyclist has been charged in connection with a police chase that ended in a crash in Washington County last month, according to a Pennsylvania State Police report.

William Minerd, 27, of McClellandtown, Fayette County, was charged with multiple counts for the chase, that ended when the bike struck a police car.

At about 11:30 a.m. May 22, police clocked a motorcycle weaving in and out of traffic on Interstate 79 south, near Carnegie, at 110 mph. The motorcycle, carrying a passenger, sped up when police attempted to pull the vehicle over, so the chase continued into Washington County, where police created a rolling roadblock.

In response to the slowed traffic, the motorcycle made a U-turn and traveled north in the southbound lanes, toward the pursuing police cars. The motorcycle missed one police car but struck a second, causing the motorcyclist and the passenger to be thrown from the bike and land in the median. The crash occurred one-half mile north of the Racetrack Road exit in North Strabane.

Mr. Minerd was treated for a broken leg, and his passenger, Elizabeth Ann Mason, 25, of Point Marion, Fayette County, has permanent leg injuries, according to the police report.

Mr. Minerd was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts simple assault, five counts of recklessly endangering another person, one count of DUI causing injury and dozens of summary violations.
