ATLANTA -- Reliever Tyler Yates made it through one pain-free inning of a simulating mound outing this afternoon at Turner Park before a recurrence of a right-elbow inflammation flared and caused him to shut down indefinitely, awaiting further doctor's examination. He has been on the disabled list since May 16.
In other Pirates news, management has narrowed its focus on Boston College catcher Tony Sanchez -- whom Baseball America ranked as a late-first-round prospect at best -- as their likely No. 4 overall selection in the first-year player draft that opens at 6 p.m. today.
"Still gotta wait and see what happens," Sanchez said in a text message moments ago. "Big hopes, though."
