An Indiana County woman was jailed over the weekend after police found her children unattended in her vehicle early Saturday.
Amber Hill, 25, of Graceton, is being held on $50,000 bail in the Indiana County Jail on charges of possession of cocaine, possession with intent to deliver the drug, child endangerment, drunken driving, leaving her vehicle running and unattended in the middle of the street, and driving with a suspended license.
Borough police on patrol at 3:26 a.m. Saturday spotted Ms. Hill's car stopped in the middle of the roadway in the 200 block of Olive Street.
Using a flashlight, an officer noticed the vehicle was occupied only by two boys, ages 2 and 3, in the back seat. Police later identified the boys as Ms. Hill's children.
Police checking the vehicle heard loud arguing at a nearby residence where they found Ms. Hill in a confrontation with other people at the residence.
Outside the house officers said Ms. Hill's breath smelled heavily of alcohol, and she failed a field sobriety test.
Police, suspicious of a purple cloth bag in the vehicle, eventually looked inside and found an undisclosed amount of cocaine, a white plastic straw, debt sheets, and $871.
A relative of Ms. Hill was granted custody of her children, although the county's Children and Youth Services has been notified.
Ms. Hill's driver's license was suspended in 2007 after a DUI stop in Westmoreland County, according to court records.
She had been accepted into the accelerated rehabilitative disposition program, but her probation was extended for six months in March and her license was suspended.
