Friday, June 05, 2009

State police have identified the driver of a coal truck that struck a car Wednesday and killed the driver on Route 286 in White, Indiana County.

Charles E. Crawford Jr., 49, of Bolivar, Westmoreland County, was driving his eastbound coal truck around 1 p.m. on the highway. While he slowed to avoid hitting stopped cars in the lane ahead, he lost control and collided with a Buick Regal driven by Eleanor Berezansky, 75, of Clymer, Indiana County.

The coal truck, a 1989 International Harvester, crossed the center line and struck Ms. Berezansky's car nearly head-on. Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker said the woman appeared to have died on impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Crawford was not injured.
