Allegheny Energy Inc. said Paul J. Evanson, chairman, president and CEO, was among the "Best CEOs in America," according to Institutional Investor magazine. Evanson ranked as one of the top five CEOs in the electric utility industry for the second year in a row. To arrive at its 2009 rankings, the magazine surveyed more than 900 buy-side analysts, portfolio managers and other investment professionals at more than 460 institutions.
The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy received the Historic Preservation Award from the city of Pittsburgh's Historic Review Commission for the Riverview Park Chapel Shelter restoration project. The $1.6 million restoration project began in late 2005 and concluded in June 2008, when the building reopened to the public. The Chapel Shelter Restoration was funded by the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Allegheny Regional Asset District, The Buhl Foundation, the Eden Hall Foundation, The Pittsburgh Foundation and the Howard & Nell E. Miller Foundation. The restoration of the Chapel Shelter and the surrounding landscape honors the historic integrity of the park and demonstrates the use of sustainable, best-practice techniques that benefit the environment.
Beatriz Luna, associate professor of psychiatry and psychology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, was selected by the National Institutes of Health to serve as a member of the Advisory Committee to the Director. Since 1966, the ACD has advised the NIH director on policy and planning issues important to the NIH mission of conducting and supporting biomedical and behavioral research, research training and translating research results for the public.

Tube City IMS LLC said it was a recipient of CSX Transportation's first Environmental Award. CSXT is recognizing its freight railroad customers whose shipping practices help to significantly reduce carbon emissions. In 2008, Tube City IMS reduced carbon emissions by thousands of tons by shipping scrap on CSXT freight rail and helped alleviate congestion on the roads and conservation of fossil fuels.
Pepper Hamilton is the 2009 recipient of the Award for Outstanding Volunteerism presented by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council. Through the council's Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts program, its attorneys volunteered nearly 250 hours to 12 VLA clients. VLA provides pro bono assistance to low-income artists and smaller arts organizations for arts-related legal needs. The program is affiliated with the Allegheny County Bar Association through the Pro Bono Center of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation, which oversees a network of local providers of pro bono legal assistance.
