Two shocked by downed power line in West Hempfield
Tuesday, June 02, 2009

Two people were hospitalized this afternoon after they were shocked by a downed power line in West Hempfield, Westmoreland County.

About 4:30 p.m., a high-voltage overhead wire fell near a house on West Hempfield Avenue, Adamsburg Fire Chief Donald Thoma said. A woman in her 30s, whom Chief Thoma would not identify, was shocked when she went outside to see what had happened.

She was unconscious when paramedics arrived and was flown to UPMC Mercy, where her condition was unknown. Chief Thoma said the woman's mother-in-law may also have been shocked and was taken to Westmoreland Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters aren't sure why the power line fell. Officials from Allegheny Power were investigating.
