Tuesday, June 02, 2009

A man who was wanted by police for a carjacking in Butler County was arrested last night in McKeesport, police said.

Michael Sheehy, 48, was taken to Butler County, where he was arraigned on robbery and assault charges and placed in the county jail.

Mr. Sheehy is being held on $50,000, pending a preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge Peter Shaffer in Butler.

The vehicle had been taken from a woman on the evening of May 24. The 44-year-old East Butler woman said she had offered the suspect a ride to a bus station in Butler County at about 5:30 p.m.

Once in her vehicle, the man asked her to drive behind a Marathon gas station near the Butler Bridge and South Main Street, and she complied.

The man then choked her, threw her from the vehicle and drove away.

The woman was not seriously injured, police said. She ran inside the gas station after the attack.

The woman's vehicle, a red Dodge Intrepid, was found at 2:51 a.m. Wednesday, parked in the 100 block of West 16th Street in Homestead.
