Bridge project in McDonald may need additional funding
Tuesday, June 02, 2009

McDonald council president Tim Thomassy said last night he is concerned a $500,000 grant may not cover the cost of fixing damaged bridges on Arabella Street and School Street.

"We may end up being short and we may need some help," Mr. Thomassy told U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, who attended the council meeting.

McDonald's preliminary repair estimates were $540,000 for the Arabella Street bridge and $160,000 for the School Street bridge -- eaning the grant still could leave the borough $200,000 short.

Washington County has OK'd the $500,000 allocation from its local share of revenues from slot machine gambling at The Meadows. The state Department of Community and Economic Development is reviewing the application for final approval.
