Police are looking for a man who last night fled UPMC Mercy, where he was being treated for injuries he suffered when he crashed an SUV during a police chase that ended on the South Side.

The man, identified as 32-year-old Otto Harris, is described by city dispatchers as black, 6 feet tall and 210 pounds, with a swollen right eye and facial injuries, which he received when he crashed into a utility pole at Becks Run Road and East Carson Street about 5 p.m.

Dispatchers said he has facial hair and tattoos and fled the Uptown hospital about 9 p.m. wearing a hospital gown.

The chase started hours earlier in West Homestead, where a Munhall officer chased the man in a black SUV to East Carson Street, where the vehicle crashed into a utility pole in front of Page's Dairy Mart, according to KDKA-TV. Munhall police have declined to comment about the incident.

Witnesses told KDKA that after the crash, a female passenger fled the vehicle holding an assault rifle, which she passed to the male driver, who thew it over a fence. They told the television station that police officers stunned the man with a Taser before arresting him.
