Warrant issued in Butler carjacking
Monday, June 01, 2009

An arrest warrant has been issued for a man suspected of having assaulted a woman before forcing her from her vehicle last week in Butler County.

The suspect, Michael Sheehy, 48, whose last known address was in Munhall, is being sought in connection with charges of robbery of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, theft, simple assault and driving with a suspended license.

The woman's vehicle, a red Dodge Intrepid, was found at 2:51 a.m. Wednesday, parked in the 100 block of West 16th Street in Homestead.

The vehicle had been taken from a woman on the evening of May 24. The 44-year-old East Butler woman said she had offered the suspect a ride to a bus station in Butler County at about 5:30 p.m. May 24.

Once in her vehicle, the man asked her to drive behind a Marathon gas station near the Butler Bridge and South Main Street, and she complied.

The man then choked her, threw her from the vehicle and drove away.

The woman was not seriously injured, police said. She ran inside the gas station after the attack.

Authorities in Butler were not aware last week that the vehicle had been reported found on Wednesday morning in Homestead.

Mr. Sheehy, however, has not been arrested.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Butler police at 724-287-7743.
