Meadows crash injures harness driver
Tuesday, May 26, 2009

A racetrack collision involving this year's two most successful harness drivers at The Meadows injured one, who was treated at a hospital this afternoon after being struck by a horse and knocked to the ground.

A track spokesman said Tony Hall was driving Tricky Again in the third race of the day when Captain Greg, driven by Dave Palone, unexpectedly bolted from behind Mr. Hall. Mr. Hall was struck by the horse and temporarily pinned by it while in the sulky before he fell to the ground, the spokesman said.

Other trailing horses and drivers avoided any further harm by veering around the collision, which occurred about 1 p.m., and paramedics stationed at the racetrack in Washington County rushed to Mr. Hall. He was taken to Canonsburg General Hospital and treated for multiple bruises. Mr. Palone was uninjured.

The spokesman said Mr. Hall has the second highest number of wins and winning percentage at The Meadows this year, behind only Mr. Palone. Mr. Hall, 30, had the best year of his career in 2008, driving horses that won $4.3 million in purses.
