Home Depot, Conservancy donate flowers to Allegheny County
Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Allegheny County officials this morning announced that Home Depot has donated 15,000 annuals to the county Parks Department to replace a portion of the flowers and plants destroyed in a fire at the South Park greenhouse on May 1.

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy has also donated 1,600 large annuals.

"We were so disappointed to lose all of the flowers in the unfortunate South Park greenhouse fire, especially at this time of year when our parks are beginning to flourish again," county Executive Dan Onorato said in a news release.

"Thanks to the generosity of The Home Depot and Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, we will not only have thousands of colorful annuals, but also volunteers to help us plant them throughout our parks."

Home Depot volunteers were expected to help plant the annuals from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Boyce and White Oak parks.
