Trooper hurt as driver tries to flee
Friday, May 22, 2009

A state trooper in Butler County was treated and released at a hospital after he was dragged by a vehicle.

Trooper John Stutz spotted Shane Nolan, 35, of Karns City, around 1:15 a.m. today at Friedman's Grocery Store in Chicora. Mr. Nolan had been sought in connection with a protection from abuse order violation, according to police.

As the trooper was trying to talk to him, Mr. Nolan began driving away. The trooper tried to stop him and was dragged and thrown to the ground in the store parking lot.

Mr. Nolan then led police on a 15-to-20 minute chase through several towns before police put down devices to deflate his tires and the car was stopped on Route 268. He was charged with a variety of offenses and was sent to Butler County Jail on $50,000 bond.
