North Irwin police chief resigns
Tuesday, May 12, 2009

North Irwin council last night unanimously accepted the resignation of Police Chief Pete Henderson.

A part-time officer, Chief Henderson was the borough's only policeman. Mayor Leonard L. Santimyer said he cited "personal reasons" for his resignation.

Chief Henderson has served for three years, the past two as chief.

State police will cover emergency calls in the borough of 800 residents until a part-time replacement is hired.

"We're looking to hire a police officer as soon as possible," Mr. Santimyer said. "State police covered our town during unmanned shifts for three years. Council and I don't feel public safety will be compromised."
