Gonchar out for tonight's game
Saturday, May 09, 2009

WASHINGTON -- Defenseman Sergei Gonchar did not dress for Game 5 of the Penguins' second-round playoff series against Washington tonight at the Verizon Center.

Gonchar got a right-knee injury of undisclosed severity when he was hit by Capitals left winger Alex Ovechkin during the first period of the Penguins' 5-3 victory in Game 4 at Mellon Arena Friday night.

With Gonchar out, the Penguins dressed seven defensemen. Philippe Boucher was in their lineup for just the second time in 11 playoff games and Alex Goligoski, recalled earlier in the day from the Penguins' farm team in Wilkes-Barre, made his NHL playoff debut.

Because the Penguins were able to dress just 11 forwards, left winger Pascal Dupuis was a healthy scratch.
