First Allegheny County swine flu case confirmed
Patient has already recovered
Friday, May 08, 2009

A single case of the H1N1 flu virus in Allegheny County has been confirmed by the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, and the illness was not severe for the patient, a man in his 30s who has since recovered.

Allegheny County Health Department spokesman Guillermo Cole said today that the county resident, who lives alone, stayed home after his diagnosis and probably kept the virus from spreading. He had traveled to Colorado, where he may have picked up the virus, Mr. Cole said.

There are now 10 confirmed and 18 probable H1N1 cases in the state, as reported by the state Health Department this afternoon.

Confirmed cases are in Allegheny, Lycoming, Luzerne, Montgomery, Philadelphia, Bucks and Chester counties. Probable cases in western Pennsylvania are one each in Westmoreland, Cambria and Mercer counties.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
