An Armstrong County man was killed when the car in which he was riding Wednesday crashed into a utility pole, Coroner Robert Bower said.
Elmer Claypool, 84, was a passenger in a car driven eastbound by his wife, Martha, 79, when she lost control of the vehicle at 4:05 p.m. on Route 85 in Rayburn.
The car struck a utility pole, which was sheared off. The base of the pole caved in the passenger side of the windshield as Mr. Claypool was thrown forward by the impact.
Mrs. Claypool was taken by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian. Her condition was not available.
