Showdown at Sarver rescheduled
Friday, May 08, 2009

Rain interrupted the racing action Tuesday during the World of Outlaws Dirt Late Model event at Lernerville Speedway. The event will resume with the second B-main and the 50-lap "Showdown at Sarvertown" feature June 25 as part of the Firecracker 100 weekend.

The "Showdown at Sarvertown" was chugging along with only two features remaining when a steady rain ended the action. Before the showers, an overcast sky and cool temperatures made for competitive, side-by-side racing in the 10-lap heat races.

Three-time Mid Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) champion Jason Covert of York Haven outdueled Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., in the first heat race while SteveFrancis of Ashland, Ky., won the second heat race. Austin Hubbard, 17, from Seaford, Del., battled veteran WoO competitor Chub Frank of Bear Lake for the win in the third heat, and Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., won the final heat.

Saxonburg's Alex Ferree bested Matt Lux of Franklin in the first consolation, which was run in a light drizzle. The second B-main, which be contested June 25, features local driver's Dave Hess Jr., of Waterford, Lynn Geisler of Cranberry Township, Davey Johnson of Latrobe, Jared Miley from South Park and Gary Lyle of Hyde Park.

Lanigan, who set the fastest time in qualifying, earned the pole position for the 50-lap "Showdown in Sarvertown." Frank joins him on the front row.

Rain checks from Tuesday will be honored June 25.

Also in '82, Bolland was the Mercer Raceway champion and the Western Pennsylvania rookie of the year.

The most interesting statistic provided by local racing historian Walt Wimer, was the fact that Bolland has averaged nine wins a year dating to '99 when he started racing is own car again.

Besides the big win at Lernerville in '82, Bolland impressed the crowd at Lowe's Motor Speedway in 2003 with an upset win in the Eckerd 100 over the best modified drivers in the country.

Bolland's career highlights include five track titles at the Tri-City Speedway, two championships at Lernerville and 12 wins with the BRP Modified Tour.
