Duquesne Basketball: NYC guard signs with Dukes
Wednesday, May 06, 2009

Sean Johnson, a 6-foot-2 guard from Christ the King High School in New York City, is the second player to commit to Duquesne's recruiting class of 2009.

He made his official visit to campus last week, made a verbal commitment Monday and plans to officially sign his letter of intent today.

"I visited there, the people were great and so was the coaching staff," Johnson said yesterday. "I liked the atmosphere. Everything about the trip was just great. I thought it was a good fit for me."

Johnson, who averaged 22.4 points per game and was named the MVP of the Catholic High School Athletic Association Class AA league in the Brooklyn/Queens section this past season, also received scholarship offers from Manhattan, Quinnipiac and Nebraska.

He is expected to be a shooting guard and point guard with the Dukes, who lost first-team All-Atlantic 10 Conference point guard Aaron Jackson to graduation.

"My shooting, going to the basket and defense are my strengths," Johnson said.

He joins Andre Marhold, a Pittsburgh native and 6-6 forward from North Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, N.C., who signed his letter of intent last month after making a verbal commitment in February. He averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds per game as a senior.
