Spring Birding Workshop May 15-16

Look. Up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane ... Well, OK, it's a bird. But avian observers can get super views of migrating and nesting birds in the weeks before spring foliage is at its fullest. McKeever Environmental Learning Center, near Sandy Lake in Mercer County, will host a two-day birding workshop tailored for homeowners, teachers and outdoors educators. The workshop begins at 6 p.m. May 15 with sessions on identifying bird families and the proper ways to use field guides and binoculars. May 16 sessions include an early-morning bird walk and outings at McKeever, Goddard State Park and its Lake Wilhelm, all designated Important Bird Areas by the National Audubon Society. $65 includes Friday night lodging, meals, instruction by Tony Piccolin, materials and Act 48 credits for teachers.
