How bad is the traffic congestion to get to the new Children's Hospital in Lawrenceville? We asked several Pittsburgh Post-Gazette staff members to drive to the new location from their homes at different times of the day to give readers a sense of how long it takes (You don't always get accurate time estimates or the shortcuts from MapQuest.com).

Here are their reports:

From Mt. Lebanon

Via Banksville Road, the Parkway West and Route 28 north to the 40th Street Bridge (often a big bottleneck area), turning left onto Butler Street and up the hill on 44th Street to get to the hospital. It took 20 minutes beginning at 10:30 a.m. on a Thursday.

From Regent Square

Via Braddock Avenue, Forbes Avenue, doglegging through Squirrel Hill to Negley Avenue and left on Friendship Avenue to the front of Children's Hospital. It took 24 minutes beginning at 8 a.m. on a Tuesday (Driver got behind Port Authority's 77G).

From Hartwood Acres

Via Middle Road to Route 8 to Route 28 south to the 40th Street Bridge, up the hill to Penn Avenue and then left to the hospital. It took 35 minutes beginning at 8 a.m. on a Tuesday; a trip at noon that day along the same route took 16 minutes.

From Cranberry

Via Interstate 79 southbound to Interstate 279, exiting at East Ohio Street, turning left onto East Ohio and following Route 28 north to the 40th Street Bridge, up the hill to Penn Avenue and turning left to get to the hospital. It took 30 minutes, starting at 9 a.m. on a Thursday.

From Monroeville

At the Parkway East entrance at Routes 48 and US 22, via the Parkway East to the Edgewood/Swissvale exit, north onto Braddock Avenue to Penn Avenue, left through East Liberty to 45th Street and Penn Avenue. It took 35 minutes starting at 3:11 p.m. on a Thursday.

From Penn Hills

Via Coal Hollow Road to Allegheny River Boulevard to Butler Street through Lawrenceville to Main Street to 45th Street and Penn Avenue. It took 21 minutes, starting at 2:06 p.m. on a Thursday.

From Interstate 79

At its intersection with the Parkway West, via the Fort Pitt Bridge to Fort Duquesne Boulevard, left onto Liberty Avenue at the Greyhound Bus Station and through the Strip District into Lawrenceville, turning left on Main Street, then right onto Penn Avenue. It took 19.5 minutes beginning at 2:47 p.m. on a Wednesday.
