Sunday, April 26, 2009

If you're heading out on the road this spring or summer, consider purchasing a yearlong pass that gives you unlimited access to federal recreation sites that charge an entrance fee.

It's called the America the Beautiful -- National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass. Locally, this would include Fort Necessity National Battlefield as well as the Gettysburg National Military Park. Cost is $80 and can be purchased at http://store.usgs.gov/passor at the Rivers of Steel Heritage area at www.riversofsteel.com or at its visitor center at 623 E. Eighth Ave., Homestead. You also can call 412-464-4020.

For people over 62, you can buy a senior access pass for $10 and a free lifetime pass is available to those with permanent disabilities.
