Friday, April 24, 2009

A Masontown woman was killed and a person believed to be her relative was injured in a single-vehicle accident yesterday in German Township, Fayette County.

Fayette County Deputy Coroner Marisa Springer identified the victim as 20-year-old Jennifer Gibson. She died of a broken neck and was pronounced dead at the scene, Ms. Springer said.

A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Roy Gibson III, 19, also of Masontown, was injured and was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. The hospital would release no information on his condition. Ms. Springer said she believes he is Ms. Gibson's brother.

The accident occurred about 5:40 a.m. on Tree Farm Road, which parallels Route 21 in the township. The vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree, Ms. Springer said.
