Elise Farris

Hopewell

Last week: Farris won two individual events and two relays at the Beaver County Track and Field Championships. She won the 400 and the 800 and was on the winning 1,600- and 3,200-relay teams.

Check this out: Farris' 400 times of 58.2 is second best in the WPIAL this season. Her 800 time of 2:22 is tied for fourth. Farris, a 5-foot-61/2 junior, is a two-sport standout. As a guard in basketball this past season, she averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds and 2 steals a game.

• What event do you like best? I like the 800 the best. The 400 is all-out sprinting. The 800 is more like a middle distance.

• How hard is it to do all four events at a meet? By the end of a meet, I'm pretty worn out. But I'm kind of used to it because I try to do four events at meets. Sometimes, I even get thrown in the 200.

• What events will you run at the WPIAL championships? Definitely the 800, and probably the 400 and the [3,200] relay.

• Do you do anything special the day before a meet? I eat lots of bananas. I've been told they help your body so you don't cramp up.

• I know you've been asked this a lot, but what sport do you prefer? I do get asked that a lot, but I like basketball better. I've been playing since I was in second grade, so it's just a thing with me.

• You'd like to have dinner with ... Lisa Leslie [WNBA star player]. She's one of my basketball idols.

• Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Probably -- well maybe -- getting married. Something like that. Doing something in coaching, too. I'm really into sports.

• Favorite sports team to watch on TV? I'd have to say Pitt in any sport -- football, basketball.

• People might be surprised to know that ...I like sushi. A lot of people think that's gross.

Oliver Girman

Serra

Recently:Over a three-week span, Girman did not allow a hit in 17 of 18 innings pitched for the Serra baseball team. He had a streak of 13 hitless innings that was broken when he gave up a hit in a relief appearance Monday against Jeannette.

Check this out: Girman, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-hander, has helped Serra to a 9-1 record. He plays shortstop when he doesn't pitch. His brother, Alain, is a freshman pitcher for Serra. Girman, a Monroeville resident, came to Serra as a sophomore after transferring from Gateway.

• Do you know how unusual that hitless streak was? I haven't really thought about it too much, but I'm guessing it is pretty unusual.

• What did you do when you gave up the hit to Jeannette? I was kind of mad, I'm not going to lie. But then I just had to regroup.

• Any pitcher you look up to? It used to be Roger Clemens. Now I'd have to say Tim Lincecum for the [San Francisco] Giants.

• Did the steroids stuff sour you on Clemens? Not really because you still don't know if it's true. If it is true, then I won't look up to him as much.

• Any personal competitions with you and your brother? I just try to do better than him. You know if I don't, I have to hear it from him and it's not going to be good at home.

• If you could take anyone in the world to your prom who would it be? [Actress] Megan Fox.

• If I gave you $50 to go to dinner, where would you go? Probably to the Green Mango in Monroeville. It's really good Thai food and no one really knows about it.

• People might be surprised to know that ...I didn't play baseball until 9. Everyone always starts a lot younger, but I didn't play T-ball or coach pitch.
