BIG COFFEE NEWS

• U.S. barista champion Mike Phillips came in third at the World Barista Championship this past weekend in Atlanta. Gwilym Davies of the United Kingdom and Sammy Piccolo of Canada took first and second place, respectively.

NEW OFFERINGS

• Cappuccino drinkers listen up, 21st Street Coffee is now offering milk from Brunton Dairy in Aliquippa. Right now the milk is available for all small drinks with no up-charge.

CUPPINGS AND CLASSES

• 21st Street Coffee and Tea: "Cupping and Chemex" class April 26 at 3 p.m.; limited to six participants, $30 per person. Class will include a blind cupping of three coffees and a demo/instruction on brewing coffee in a Chemex. Participants will receive a 12-ounce bag of one of the cupped coffees and a 10 percent discount off of a variety of Chemex supplies. • Blue Horse: Free cuppings are held 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Participants assess three coffees. No reservations or experience with coffee tasting necessary.

• La Prima offers a roaster tour and coffee class from 10 a.m.-noon on the first Saturday of each month. Learn about coffee types and espresso basics, and see a roast first-hand. $10; includes sampling, half-pound bag of coffee and biscotti. Space limited; 412-565-7070.
