Don Graham, storied North Catholic basketball coach, dies

Don Graham, who coached the North Catholic boys' basketball team for 51 seasons and was the winningest coach in Pennsylvania history, died this morning in Passavant Hospital.

Mr. Graham, 83, of McCandless, died of pancreatic cancer.

Just after 11 a.m., North Catholic president Frank Orga sent an e-mail to the school's alumni reading, in part, "It is with a very sad heart that I pass onto to you that Coach Don Graham passed away this morning. The particulars of the viewing and funeral Mass have not been decided yet."

Graham led the Trojans from 1948-99, amassing an 801-436 record in that span.

Visitation will be at Sperling Family Funeral Home, McCandless, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Alexis Church, 10090 Old Perry Highway, Wexford with Interment to follow at Holy Savior Cemetery, Pine.
