Thursday, April 16, 2009

A Fayette County woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash yesterday in Henry Clay Township, state police said.

Karen A. Metz, 65, of Confluence, had been a passenger in a car traveling east on National Pike, or Route 40, at 5:28 a.m. when her vehicle was struck by a westbound car that had drifted into the eastbound lanes, police said.

The eastbound vehicle, driven by Nora K. McKeel, 45, of Markleysburg, struck Mrs. Metz's car head-on.

Ms. McKeel's car then struck a second westbound vehicle, an SUV driven by Cameron T. Villemaire, 18.

Mr. Villemaire and his passengers, Debbie L. Villemaire, 46, and Joseph B. Villemaire, 48, were not injured. The family is from Reva, Va., police said.

Minor injuries were suffered by Ms. McKeel and George W. Metz, 69, who had been driving Mrs. Metz's car.

Mrs. Metz was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said charges are pending.

All occupants of the vehicles involved had been wearing lap and shoulder belts at the time of the crash, police said.
