Crash kills woman in Armstrong County
Saturday, April 11, 2009

A woman was killed yesterday afternoon in a four-vehicle crash on Route 422 in Kittanning.

Michele McGaughey, 40, died at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, where she was taken after the crash that happened about 3:30 p.m. near Ciera Lounge in Armstrong County, state police said.

A Mack truck driven by Bobby Young, 29, was heading east on 422, and Ms. McGaughey, in a Ford Explorer, was heading west. Mr. Young was "traveling too fast for conditions on the wet roadway and was unable to stop his truck," state police said, and jackknifed in the eastbound lane. Part of his truck was in the westbound lane; the cab struck a vehicle driven by Thomas Wolfe, 44, and the front struck the driver's side of Ms. McGaughey's car, which then struck a parked vehicle.

Mr. Wolfe suffered minor injuries, according to state police, and Mr. Young was uninjured.
