Saturday, March 28, 2009

The eastbound lanes are blocked and westbound traffic is slow on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the Harmar area after a crash and fire involving at least one vehicle this afternoon near the Allegheny Valley exit.

Emergency crews are on the scene of the crash, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. One vehicle blocked both eastbound lanes and burst into flames, which shot more than 30 feet into the air.

Westbound traffic also was briefly blocked after nurses or health care workers stopped their car and attempted to assist the people in the car. WSestbound traffic now is slow but moving, witnesses said.

No information was immediately available from police on the cause of the accident or condition of those involved.
