Emily Miller
Mt. Lebanon
The past week: Miller scored 25 points in a 67-39 victory against Erie McDowell in the second round of the PIAA Class AAAA playoffs Tuesday. She had 18 in a 51-39 first-round victory Friday against Baldwin.
Check this out: Miller, a 5-foot-11 guard-forward, has been a three-year starter and is the Blue Devils' leading scorer this season. She is one of only two seniors on the team and has helped Mt. Lebanon to a 28-0 record. She has not decided on a college.
The 25 points were the most for you this year. Why the offensive outburst? I don't know. I was just hitting some shots. Maddy Cable and some of the other girls gave me so many assists.
Although you're the leading scorer, no one on this team averages even 15 points. Is that by design or accident? I think it just happens. All the starters, and even the bench players, are all good players. If one person is having an off game, someone else steps up.
Do you girls run many 'quick-hitter' plays for somebody to get a shot? No. We don't have a play for one specific person. They're all designed so everyone has an opportunity.
Give me a reason Dori Oldaker is such a good coach? There are a lot of reasons. She's intense and really knows her stuff. But all of our coaches scout so much. They watch so much film and prepare us so well. They know other teams' offenses so well, and we pretty much follow what they say.
How far will the Pitt men's team go in the NCAA tournament? I have faith in them. I think DeJuan Blair can handle things. I think they'll go to the Final Four.
Something you'd like to get around doing when basketball season is over? Sleeping. I'd like to sleep a little bit more.
People might be surprised to know that ... I'm an expert at Guitar Hero.

Erik Manetta
Serra
This week: Manetta had two goals and two assists in a 6-2 victory Monday against Freeport in a Penguins Cup Class A quarterfinal.
Check this out: Manetta, a junior, led the PIHL in scoring during the regular season with 77 points (40 goals and 37 assists). He has more than 100 career goals.
You're scoring more this year. Why? I think it's just because I'm an upperclassmen now and our coach [Brian Boehm] told me it's my team this year. I'm just trying to step up and play harder this year.
Serra always is good in hockey. Why?We build from the bottom up. There are sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders who get in the program, and they end up wanting to play at Serra.
Anybody you pattern your game after? I'd have to say Sidney Crosby. He's a great inspiration because he came into the NHL so young and he's always been a good player.
A food you can't do without? Pizza and lots of pasta.
TV show you can't miss? I don't watch much TV. I usually just watch NHL games.
If you could go to any college in the country and play hockey, where would you go? Mercyhurst. I play on the Junior Penguins, too, and we got to scrimmage their college team. I got to stay on their campus and I liked it a lot.
Something that bothers you about high school girls? That they're annoying sometimes. They just never stop calling you or texting you.
