More lane closures start Monday on Route 28
Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Single lane traffic on outbound Route 28 in Etna will be extended by 1.5 miles starting Monday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.

Starting at 9 a.m., the left lane closure will extend from the Etna interchange to the Highland Park Bridge to allow crews to begin bridge rehabilitation work and roadway reconstruction. The closure will continue through early June, PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said.

Also starting Monday, single lane closures will occur on northbound Route 28 between the Harmar/Route 910 interchange (Exit 11) and the Creighton interchange (Exit 13).

Lane closures will occur daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 20. Crews will install signs to aid motorists in using the new third lane added last year. Seven additional signs will be installed and the temporary orange construction signs will be removed.

Crews later this month will eliminate the yield condition on the ramp from Route 910 to northbound Route 28 at the Harmar interchange. Once the yield sign is removed and traffic lines repainted, motorists merging onto Route 28 will use the new third lane.

Southbound traffic will not be affected by the work.
