Mars (21-1-0) jumped to a decisive advantage and cruised home from there, earning a 6-3 victory against Westmont-Hilltop (10-11-1) in a PIHL Class A quarterfinal at Bladerunners in Warrendale.
Senior Jake Robash helped propel Mars to a 5-1 lead, scoring two goals and accumulating three assists. Robash scored his first goal -- a short-handed effort -- at 9:42 of the first period and his second was a power-play goal at 11:53 of the third period.
Robash has 39 goals this year.
Steven Tracy, a senior, added a goal and assist for the Planets while goaltender Tyler Stepke made 18 saves to earn the victory.
Mars peppered Westmont-Hilltop sophomore goalie Adam Ayre with 39 shots.
Seneca Valley 3, Erie McDowell 2: It took overtime for the Raiders (13-5-5) to pull out a victory against Erie McDowell (12-8-4) in the PIHL quarterfinal at Bladerunners.
Brandon Platt scored with 34 seconds left in overtime on a power-play goal to lift the Raiders into the semifinals. Platt also scored in the second period.
Erie McDowell had led in the game, 2-1, in the second period, getting goals from Ryan Guzek and Shane Reese before Seneca Valley's Mike Rohm tied it in the third. Goalie Ryan Schutte earned the victory for Seneca Valley, making 22 saves.
