Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Pine-Richland's run of Penguins Cup championship seasons is over.

The Rams had won PIHL Penguins Cups the past three seasons, but Mt. Lebanon ended this campaign with a 3-0 Class AAA quarterfinal win last night at the Ice Connection in Valencia.

James Greeno had two goals, Brooks Behling also scored and Brandon Bianco had two assists for Mt. Lebanon (12-7-5), the No. 9 seed which has won five consecutive games.

No. 2 seed Pine-Richland (18-2-3) hadn't lost since Nov. 24 and hadn't lost a Penguins Cup playoff game since 2005.

Greeno scored midway through the first period, and Travis Lisowski allowed that to hold up with 33 saves for his third shutout. The Blue Devils' other two goals were empty netters in the final minute.

"Travis was outstanding for us," Blue Devils coach Dave Hornack said. "This is a signature win for our program."
