A man who alledgedly fatally shot a fellow hunter in a December accident was charged yesterday, according to court records.
Daniel Logan, of Clinton, and the victim, Duane Smith, of Frankfort Springs, were hunting in a wooded area in Hanover Township around 2 p.m. Dec. 13, the last day of rifle deer hunting season.
Mr. Smith, 35, was about 45 yards from Mr. Logan when a deer ran between the two men. Mr. Logan, 21, fired several shots toward the deer, one fatally striking Mr. Smith in the head.
Mr. Smith's 9-year-old son was present and witnessed the shooting.
The state Game Commission filed charges of causing injury to a human being and recklessly endangering another person against Mr. Logan. Charges were filed with District Judge Janet Swihart, and Mr. Logan will receive notice by summons.
