The fifth annual Think P.I.N.K. fundraiser for the UPMC Hillman Cancer Patient Assistance Fund will be held tomorrow and Saturday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Fort Couch Road in Bethel Park.

The fun starts tomorrow with a 6 p.m. Pittsburgh's Largest Pajama Party. Makeovers and a "pillow fight" are on the schedule. Rooms are available at a discounted rate; call 412-833-5300.

The next day, a slate of activities includes a raffle, Tea for Two and pampering treatments. Each carries a separate fee. The grand finale is the event dinner that evening ($25 per person). To register online, go to www.thinkpinkevents.org or blacktie-pittsburgh.com.

n Bethel Park Public Library Board is seeking members. Participants must be at least 18 years old and live in Bethel Park.

• The Bethel Park High School Symphonic Band has been selected to play at the National Association for Music Education's Eastern Division Conference, which will be held in Providence, R.I., on March 12-15.

The band will perform for more than 1,800 music educators on March 13. It is one of seven high school musical groups selected to perform at this event, which also includes performances from groups such as the Boston Brass, the University of Rhode Island Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Penn State Glee Club.

Members of the Symphonic Band had to undergo a rigorous audition process and were selected from hundreds of applicants.

"This is quite an honor for our students and our music program," said David Buetzow, teacher and director.

Green Tree

Through a special funding initiative, the Office of Commonwealth Libraries has awarded a 2009 Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Grant to Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh -- South Side children's librarian Jeanne Nikolaison. As a Laura Bush scholar, Ms. Nikolaison, of Green Tree, will use the grant to pursue her master's degree in library science.

Administered by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services, the grant program is to develop a new generation of highly skilled librarians.

Mt. Lebanon

Commissioners decided Monday to have engineers pursue further study of the installation of speed humps in the Mapleton corridor. This was the mildest of three options considered; others included adding no-turn signs and diverting traffic.

"The majority of the commission approved what we considered to be the less restrictive measure," Commissioner Dan Miller said. "I was just pleased we've made some progress in this. It's a very difficult and sensitive issue."

The commission also agreed to re-evaluate a traffic calming policy that had been established four years ago.

• The Allegheny division of the American Heart Association awarded its first Mary Ann Scully Excellence in Nursing Award to Linda L. Vance, nurse manager in the hospital's Coronary Care Unit.

The award was given to Ms. Vance for her commitment to cardiac nursing. A 40-year veteran of St. Clair, she helped found the Coronary Care Unit at the 329-bed Mt. Lebanon hospital.

The award was named after the late Mary Ann Scully, who worked for 35 years in cardiac nursing at the former Presbyterian University Hospital in Oakland and was very active in the American Heart Association.

Ms. Vance, of Upper St. Clair, will be feted at the Pittsburgh Heart Ball on Saturday.

nState Rep. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, and Allegheny County Councilman Vince Gastgeb, R-Bethel Park, will host a drug and alcohol prevention and awareness event from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 12 at Mt. Lebanon High School's auditorium, 7 Horsman Drive, Mt. Lebanon.

The event will feature speakers from the county Health Department and county Department of Health and Human Services, followed by a question-and-answer period. Resource tables from the county and state, and teen outreach organizations will be available for participants.
