Man held after bomb squad summoned in Clarion
Tuesday, February 17, 2009

A West Virginia man was arrested yesterday after he left a piece of luggage near propane tanks at the Wal-Mart in Clarion.

Randall S. Carpenter, 24, of Beckley, was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and facsimile weapons of mass destruction. State police said he rolled the luggage into the store and then back outside, where he left it near the propane, located near store's front entrance.

The state police bomb squad determined the bag did not contain a bomb.

Mr. Carpenter was spotted on store security cameras and eventually arrested in Shippenville, state police said. He was jailed in lieu of $30,000 bond.
