Kennywood owner lays off 10 employees
Monday, February 09, 2009

Parques Reunidos has laid off 10 of the 110 employees who work year-round at three area amusement parks -- Idlewild Park in Ligonier, Kennywood Park in West Mifflin, and Sandcastle in West Mifflin.

Six of those workers were assigned to Idlewild and two each worked for Kennywood and Sandcastle.

Kennywood spokesman Jeff Filicko said the people laid off range from lower level employees to mid- and upper management, and that there are no current plans for any more layoffs. He said the job cuts were a cost-cutting move.

Spanish-based Parques Reunidos bought the parks in June.
