Kaya's chocolate and rum dinner
Saturday, February 07, 2009
Mexican chocolate torte with dulce butter rum sauce.

Forget bread and chocolate. Kaya in the Strip is taking chocolate to new culinary heights with an assist from neighbor Mon Aimee Chocolate. They've paired different specialty chocolates with dishes both savory and sweet, creating a three-course Valentine's Day menu that uses some form of chocolate in every dish. And then the fun begins! A $15 rum package is available separately that complements the menu for double intoxication.

The dinner will be offered Tuesday through next Saturday for $35 per person, which gives diners a choice of first course (chocolate and chili-glazed pork belly, cocoa-dusted sea scallops or a Bibb lettuce wrap with chocolate jerked crispy tofu and key lime mojo). The entrees include strip steak with poblano mole, Scottish salmon and grilled eggplant with mole verdi. Dessert is a Mexican chocolate cake with buttered rum sauce.

"We've been talking to [Mon Aimee owner] Amy Rosenfield for a while," says executive chef Danielle Cain. "She's really been wanting us to use her product for a while, and it's really so Kaya to have the rums paired with chocolate."

Kaya, 2000 Smallman St., Strip District; 412-261-6565. Reservations are suggested. The regular menu also will be served.
