Tom Droney

Sewickley Academy

The past week: Droney scored 47 points Tuesday in a 92-85 victory against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. The win clinched at least a tie for the section title.

Check this out: Droney, a 6-foot-5 junior guard, is considered one of the top players in the WPIAL. He is among the top 10 scorers, averaging 23 points a game. He already has narrowed his college choices to Pitt, Notre Dame and Davidson.

• ;When you scored 47, was it one of those games where you were just "feeling it?" Lately, I haven't been scoring as much. I've been passing a lot. But it was such a big game [against OLSH], that I just wanted to come out and make a statement.

• ;Does your team run many set plays? We pretty much run only two and that's it. We're like Duke. We like to spread the floor and just create.

• ;As far as colleges go, is it still Pitt, Notre Dame and Davidson? It's still the same. Pitt is still really interested in me. I've been talking to them. I'm going to their game Monday against West Virginia.

• ;How are high school games different than AAU games? They're a ton different. Let's be honest. The better players are in AAU. You don't see box-and-ones and double teams like you do in high school. High school is more structured. A lot of high schools run a ton of plays.

• ;Movie you could watch any time? "Billy Madison" with Adam Sandler.

• ;Someone gave you 75 dollars to use on a date. How are you going to spend it? Can I bargain a little and keep some of the money for me [laugh]? I'd probably take her to the movies and then to a nice dinner at LeMont. But I'd probably just have appetizers so I could have some money left over.

Kerry Connolly

Sto-Rox

The past week: A 5-foot-6 senior guard, Connolly scored 30, 25 and 26 points in Vikings victories against South Side Beaver, Freedom and Avonworth to push WPIAL Class AA No. 1 Sto-Rox's record to 19-1. Connolly also went over the 1,000 career point mark in the South Side Beaver game.

Check this out: Connolly is also a stellar third baseman on the Vikings' softball team, but said she would like to play basketball in college.

• ;Why can this Sto-Rox team win a WPIAL title when others fell short? This year we have come together as a team more. We have been playing together and for each other. It is just our attitude, we have all been so positive and no one plays just for themselves.

• ;Any strange pregame rituals? Before games, I listen to Gucci Mane on my iPod and sometimes our team dances around in the locker room.

• ;What would feel better, a walk-off home run to win a softball game, or a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win a basketball game? A 3-pointer at the buzzer, because basketball is my passion. To hit that shot, I would be speechless because of all the excitement, I wouldn't know what to do.

• ;Who do you think is the best athlete in Sto-Rox history? I would go with my close friend Adam DiMichele or Megan Stone.

• ;What did you do when Santonio Holmes caught the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl? I couldn't say anything for about three seconds, then I jumped five feet high in the air.

• ;The drill in practice that you hate having to do is ... ? The foul shot drill at the end of practice.

• ;When will the Pirates have their next winning season? I am feeling this year. I have faith in them this year because there is a buzz around Pittsburgh sports.
