Man pleads guilty to sexual assault of teen
Tuesday, February 03, 2009

A McKeesport man pleaded guilty this morning to holding a 16-year-old girl captive last year while he sexually assaulted her.

Sean Robert Vanard, 21, was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 5 years in state prison and an additional five years of probation by Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey A. Manning as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Deputy District Attorney Laura Ditka agreed to drop more serious charges of rape, kidnapping, aggravated assault and burglary in exchange for Mr. Vanard's guilty plea to felony counts of sexual assault and unlawful restraint.

Mr. Vanard broke into the girl's older sister's home in Port Vue, where she was staying, according to police, in July 2007. He held her captive for 10 hours while assaulting her, police said. Volunteer firefighters found Mr. Vanard with the girl in an alley five blocks from the house. The two had a prior relationship, according to police.
