Love the Steelers? Prove it and win trip to Phoenix
Tuesday, February 03, 2009

HARRISBURG -- OK, Steelers fans who live in Pennsylvania, to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Phoenix, get out your computers and prepare to write a 250-word essay about how you LOVE the Steelers.

The trip is courtesy of Arizona Gov. Janice Brewer, who lost a bet to Gov. Ed Rendell when the Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals in Sunday's Super Bowl.

Starting today, Mr. Rendell is collecting entries in an essay-writing contest called "Why I Love the Pittsburgh Steelers."

For two weeks -- from today until 11:59 p.m Feb. 16 -- Mr. Rendell and his staff will take online entries from Steelers fans. Originally he was going to permit 500-word essays, but that has been cut in half.

"We're going to launch an online essay contest asking fans to tell us why they love the Pittsburgh Steelers," Mr. Rendell said. "We'll choose the top five responses and pick one grand prize winner for the trip to Arizona. I'm looking forward to some pretty creative responses."

The winner can take a friend on the trip. They'll get roundtrip airfare to Phoenix via US Airways; three nights at the Wigwam Golf Resort and Spa, an Arizona landmark; two rounds of golf at the resort's golf courses; dinner for two at a fancy restaurant and two seats at either a major league baseball, football, basketball or hockey game. All the prizes are being donated.

"The four remaining semi-finalists won't walk away empty handed," Mr. Rendell said. "Each of them will receive two tickets to a future regular season Steelers home game."

To enter -- starting today -- go to either www.visitpa.com or www.pa.gov and find a form to fill out the 250-word essay and contact information. Contestants have to enter at only one of the Web sites.
