PrintPirates designate reliever Beam for assignment

The Pirates today designated reliever T.J. Beam for assignment to clear space on the full 40-man roster for newly signed outfielder Eric Hinske.
Beam, 28, had a 4.14 ERA in 32 appearances last season, striking out 24 and walking 20 in 45 2/3 innings.
A team has 10 days to release, trade or waive a player designated for assignment. Beam surely will be placed on waivers with the hope that he clears and can be assigned to Class AAA Indianapolis.
