Cable sports networks have plenty of Super Bowl programming planned, as expected. But local stations are also producing special programs devoted to the event.
NBC carries the Super Bowl this year and Pittsburgh affiliate WPXI has dispatched reporters Darieth Chisolm, Gordon Loesch, Alby Oxenreiter, Bill Phillips and Rich Walsh to Tampa to cover the lead-up to the game in newscasts. Channel 11 has also extended its 11 p.m. newscast by 10 minutes each night this week, bumping the start time for "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to 11:45 p.m.
Andrew Stockey, Sally Wiggin, Bill Hillgrove, Guy Junker, Marcie Cipriani and Merril Hoge are reporting from Florida for WTAE.
KDKA has sent Bob Pompeani and John Shumway to cover the big game.
