Man injured during Greene County explosion
Saturday, January 24, 2009

One man was injured in an explosion yesterday morning at a natural gas well in the eastern part of Greene County.

The man, whose name was not released, was flown by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. His condition was not immediately available.

The explosion was reported at 9:40 a.m. at a site along Route 88 in Cumberland, according to emergency dispatchers.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Helen Humphreys, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Environmental Protection, said the explosion occurred when something on a truck malfunctioned near the gas well. The well itself did not explode and was not affected, she said.
