Following a Jan. 15 meeting in Baldwin Borough with local legislators, community leaders from Baldwin Borough, Pleasant Hills, South Park Township and Whitehall have urged officials of the Pleasant Hills Sewer Authority and the DEP to allow more planning and the evaluation of local sewer lines. They asked for the evaluation before implementation of a $15 million expansion of the present treatment plant over a projected three-year period. The DEP is requiring the PHA to eliminate major infiltration problems that cause overflow discharges that pollute local streams.
"It was encouraging to hear that other communities are in line with our position that we take the time to work toward the correct solution," Pleasant Hills Councilman Bill Trimbath, chairman of the borough's sewer rehabilitation program, said.
The police department's criminal investigative officer and canine officer will participate in a Crime Scene Investigation program today, Thursday and Friday at the Pleasant Hills Middle School where students will be introduced to and involved in the process of an investigation.
"What the children see on television where you have a crime and it's solved in an hour would be nice, but that doesn't always happen," police Chief Ed Cunningham said.
