Jade Stewart

Serra

The past week: A 5-foot-6 senior guard for the Eagles, Stewart scored a combined 50 points in wins against Chartiers-Houston and Avella, then hit a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to beat Fort Cherry, 41-39, Monday.

Check this out: The younger sister of former East Allegheny and Pitt standout Brooke Stewart, Jade said she would like to play Division I or II basketball and has begun getting looked at by smaller schools.

 Serra's main strength this year is … We are really, really quick and our defense has been great so far.

On the flip side, one thing Serra needs to improve to win the WPIAL title is … We need to have fewer ball errors, less turnovers. I would just say that we need to work in practice to take care of the basketball more.

 You hit a late-game 3-pointer to beat Fort Cherry Monday. Was the play designed to go to you? We were going to run this one play, but we also said to take the first good shot if there was one. [Teammate] Vanessa McGann set a screen for me and I came off it and there was an opening, so I took a shot.

 Who is the best girls' player in the WPIAL right now? I would say Darche Jackson at Penn Hills, because she is a team player and can score a lot, but she does things that get everyone involved.

 Your older sister, Brooke, was a prolific scorer at East Allegheny. Are you better than she is yet? We will play some one-on-one and she is just a little better than me still, but I am getting closer to beating her every time.

 Who would you pay to see in concert? Lil' Wayne.

 You can go to dinner anywhere you want. Where do you pick?T.G.I. Friday's. And I would get ribs and french fries.

 Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Las Vegas. I just want to be living out there and working for CSI.

Adam Lazenga

Bethel Park

Check this out: Lazenga, a junior, is a two-sport standout. He is the Post-Gazette's No. 1-ranked WPIAL Class AAA wrestler at 215 pounds with a 12-3 record. He also is a talented linebacker and was a first-team all-conference selection for the WPIAL AAAA champion Black Hawks.

 Football didn't end until about mid-December. How hard was it to get right into wrestling? Real hard. The first couple of practices, I was still in football shape. The transition to wrestling usually takes about a month.

 How is football "shape" different from wrestling "shape?" In football, you're going full speed for maybe 10-15 seconds and then you get a break. In wrestling, you're going six straight minutes without a break. You have to have more endurance in wrestling.

 What's better: a pin in wrestling or a sack in football? I'd have to say a pin. You overcome that one person with a pin. A sack is more toward the team.

 Ever had one of those wrestling horror stories of having to lose weight? This year, the day I came back to wrestling, I weighed 230. We had a match in three days, and I had to get down to 215. I did it.

 How? Did you eat anything? I ate a little. I just went through some hard practices and watched what I ate. I stayed after practice for about an hour each day on the treadmill, too.

 You're a linebacker in football. What do you think of the Baltimore Ravens' Ray Lewis? I love watching him. Personally, I think he's one of the best linebackers. He's one of my favorite players.
