High School Highlights: No. 1 Peters Township rolls over Mt. Lebanon
Saturday, January 10, 2009

The Peters Township boys' basketball team earned the Post-Gazette's No. 1 WPIAL Class AAAA ranking largely because of its offensive balance and defensive effort. Last night, Mt. Lebanon fell victim to both.

Springing to a nine-point first-quarter lead and rolling from there, Peters Township (11-1, 4-0) secured a 56-40 victory against visiting No. 5 Mt. Lebanon (10-3, 4-1) in a key Section 4 clash.

"The start we had was huge," Peters Township coach Gary Goga said. "To start that way and get a lead because of defense and rebounding, that set the tone in a packed house for us."

Peters Township's balance was on display with Nick Wilcox scoring 15 points, Corey Wilcox scoring 12 and Steve Radke adding 11.

"I am lucky to have the kids I have," Goga said. "They don't care if they score two points or 22 points; they just want to win."

Evan Pierce and Deion Turman had 13 each for Mt. Lebanon.
