NFL Notebook: Giants healthy for third showdown vs. Eagles
Friday, January 09, 2009

The New York Giants had everyone on the roster practice yesterday for their NFC divisional playoff game Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, the first time in more than three months no one has been idled by an injury.

Defensive end Justin Tuck (lower leg) and backup linebacker-long snapper Zak DeOssie (back) worked on a limited basis for their third matchup this season against the Eagles.

The previous time the Giants had the whole team practice was Oct. 3, two days before a game against the Seattle Seahawks. The only player who was not at practice that day was receiver Plaxico Burress, who was suspended for missing a team meeting after a game against Cincinnati.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Giants (12-4) have reached the playoffs, but this year is special for defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka and halfback Derrick Ward.

Kiwanuka and Ward both had broken left legs that occurred in the second half of last season and did not play in the Giants' run to a Super Bowl championship.

Cardinals

Anquan Boldin says he won't give his injured hamstring a serious test until just before kickoff of Arizona's divisional playoff game at Carolina tomorrow night. Boldin, a Pro Bowl wide receiver, sat out practice for the third day in a row to rest the injury, doing only minor rehabilitation work. His left hamstring was strained on a 71-yard touchdown pass play from Kurt Warner in the second quarter of the 30-24 victory Saturday against the Falcons.

Browns

Introduced for the first time as Cleveland's coach, Eric Mangini stepped to the podium and his football life flashed before him. This is where it all began.

"I feel like I should be getting some coffee or picking up some towels or something," he joked.

The ballboy returned as the boss.

Mangini, fired by the New York Jets after their season finished with a December nosedive, took over the rebuilding Browns, completing a personal and professional career circle that started with him running errands in the early 1990s as an eager underling for then-Cleveland coach Bill Belichick.

Vikings

Right guard Anthony Herrera is recovering from shoulder surgery. Coach Brad Childress revealed the operation yesterday, a day after it was performed, saying Herrera already had begun his rehabilitation and will have "a maximum amount of time to recover." Childress added Herrera "should be close" to ready when the strength and conditioning program begins in April.

Broncos

Team owner Pat Bowlen wrapped up his first round of interviews for Denver's head coaching vacancy when he met with Dolphins secondary coach Todd Bowles.

Lions

Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will interview with Detroit today for its coaching job. He just finished his second season leading a defense that has allowed the fewest yards rushing in the NFL for three years.

Chiefs

Kansas City signed fullback and tight end Jed Collins to a two-year reserve future free-agent contract.
