Review: AC/DC rocks sold-out Mellon Arena
Wednesday, January 07, 2009

A highway to hell and a little slice of heaven.

That's what the 35-year-old AC/DC delivered to a sold-out crowd tonight at Mellon Arena.

In these uncertain times, it's good to know there are a few things don't change, and AC/DC is foremost among them.

Angus Young still shows up in his schoolboy uniform and shreds like a demented guitar god from hell. Brian Johnson, with his signature cap and big muscles, still sounds like he's gargling razor blades. And AC/DC still looks into the eyes of those about rock -- and salutes that very necessity of life with high-voltage electricity.

The fans who filled the same building last year learned from Van Halen that we shouldn't take for granted that all old guys can still rock. Eddie and the boys didn't. Angus and the boys certainly did.

On this icy January night, the Australian quintet rolled in with a devilish catalog of headbanging hits and a new chart-topping album, "Black Ice," filled with songs just as nasty as the ones that drove the kids wild 30 years ago.
