Crews have restored power to dozens of homes in Bridgeville after a tractor trailer knocked down a utility pole and several power lines yesterday, shutting down a stretch of Route 50 for more than eight hours.
The crash happened just before 3 p.m., and the road between Brookfield Street and Bower Hill Road remained closed just before midnight. It has since reopened.
Police said about 1,000 Allegheny Power customers had lost electricity as a result of the downed lines.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Eric J. Lewis, 24, of White Pine, Tenn., is in the Allegheny County Jail facing charges of DUI, possession of a controlled substance and other traffic violations.
No one was hurt in the crash.
A police affidavit said officers responding to the crash saw a glass tube commonly used for smoking drugs in plain sight on a seat. Although the driver denied it was a drug pipe, a search of the vehicle found a bag of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
